M.A. Graduate Program
The M.A. and Ph.D. programs in anthropology emphasize integration of the subdisciplines -- Archaeology, Cultural Anthropology, and Physical Anthropology -- while permitting individualized program design. We are also proud to introduce a new concentration for the M.A. in Medical Anthropology. High value is also placed on research training and in-depth knowledge of the student's chosen subfield. For more information about the subfields available, please visit the Research page on our website.
Students may be admitted into an M.A.-only track or directly to the Ph.D. program, depending upon interests and qualifications. If you intend to get a Ph.D. in Anthropology, you should apply to our Ph.D. program. It is not necessary to be admitted as an M.A. student first.
Current requirements and a description of the graduate programs for each subfield appear in the 2011-2012 Graduate Student Handbook [in PDF format]. Download this for more information.
Graduate students must abide by the rules as they existed in the year of their admission. Since the rules can change, you may want to check the Handbooks of earlier years. For previous years' Handbooks, see the Department's Graduate Secretary.
A list of important forms, both departmental and from the Graduate School, and information on when and why they must be filed can be found on the Anthropology Graduate Forms webpage.
